Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer of the group. The group was first introduced at the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months and because Carter was not 21 she must have entered through the kitchen.Carter went to Arizona State University. After being called "Most gifted" and deciding to leave school and pursue the career of a musician. Carter auditioned for The Garfin Gathering in 1970. She later went on the road together with Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first show together took place in the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco that was so brand-new that it didn't have sidewalks. The hotel's staff as well as hotel guests parked their cars in the underground parking garage , meaning that they were mainly performing for the hotel's guests. The Garfin Gathering played shows in numerous Nevada casinos, including those situated between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter decided to leave the Garfin Gathering in 1972 to pursue acting. She then returned to Arizona.
