
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her gorgeous, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" the song she first introduced in her debut album. In addition to her note on the music, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started in the film industry in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in several westerns. She also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in 1969. She continued her success in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband was the producer of the show.
